5 Reasons Your Kansas City Business Isn't Showing Up on Google

Your Google Business Profile (formerly Google My Business) is the single most important piece of local SEO real estate you own. It's what populates the Google Map Pack — those three business listings that appear above the regular search results with a map. If your profile is unclaimed, unverified, or only half-filled out, Google has no reason to show you.

Fix it: Go to business.google.com, claim and verify your listing, and fill out every available field — business name, address, phone, hours, website, description, services, and photos. Completeness signals to Google that you're a legitimate, active business worth surfacing to local searchers.

2. Your Website Has No Local SEO Signals

Having a website isn't enough — it needs to speak Google's language. If your site doesn't mention Kansas City, Olathe, Overland Park, Lee's Summit, or the specific neighborhoods and suburbs you serve, Google has no way of knowing you're a local business. Reviews are one of the top local ranking factors. Google uses review count, recency, and average rating as signals of business quality and legitimacy. A competitor with 50 five-star reviews will almost always outrank one with 5 — even if your actual service is better. Fix it: Build a simple system for asking happy customers to leave a Google review. The most effective approach: send a short text or email immediately after a positive experience with a direct link to your review page. Respond to every review — positive or negative. It demonstrates to Google and future customers that you're engaged and trustworthy.

5. Your Website Is Slow or Not Mobile-Friendly

Google has used mobile-first indexing for years, meaning it evaluates the mobile version of your site as the primary version. If your site looks broken on a phone or takes more than 3 seconds to load, Google will rank you lower — full stop. A slow, clunky mobile experience is one of the most silent, most common SEO killers for local businesses.
